What we collect

Your email address, and nothing else. We don’t ask for your name or your location, and we don’t build a profile. The signup form has one field for that reason.

How you get on the list

When you sign up we email you a confirmation link, and you’re not on the list until you click it.

What we use it for

Sending you the updates you signed up for, and nothing else. We email when there’s something real to report, and we don’t use your address for any other purpose.

Who handles it

Buttondown, our email service, stores the list and sends the emails for us. They act only on our instructions, and they’ve agreed in writing to handle your data properly.

Analytics

We don’t run analytics on this site. There are no cookies and no trackers, and nothing is loaded into your browser to watch what you do. That’s why you won’t see a cookie banner here: there’s nothing to consent to. Our web host keeps the ordinary traffic counts that every web host keeps, and that’s all we ever see.

What we never do

We don’t sell the list, rent it, or share it with anyone. Your email address goes from you to us and back to your inbox, and nowhere else.

Leaving

You can unsubscribe at any time. Every email has the link and it takes one click, with no survey to fill in first.

How long we keep it

We keep your address for as long as you’re subscribed, because that’s how we email you. If you unsubscribe, or never click the confirmation link, your address may stay on a do-not-email suppression list so we can honor your choice and never email you again. We don’t use that list for anything else.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, delete it, object to how we use it, or send it to you in a portable format. Write to [email protected] and we’ll take care of it. If you think we’ve handled your data badly you can complain to your local data protection supervisory authority, though we’d rather you told us first so we can put it right.
